Reporting to the UK Engineering Manager and Project Director, ensuring the successful execution and completion of designs for several projects, meetings defined timescales, milestones, qualify standards and commercial objectives. This will also involve managing internal and external relationships.
As an Engineering member of the team, the Projects Design Manager will be an exemplar ambassador for the company and its values, integrity, dependability, safety, pride, and quality.

Roles and Responsibilities:
To fully own, lead and co-ordinate the design of a project including process, mechanical, electrical, civil and CAD). Also, to offer design support throughout the project (i.e for Feasibility study, Conceptual design, Basic engineering, Detailed design)
To produce a design activity schedule and monitor the design and engineering activity within the schedule; thus, ensuring all the necessary design deliverables are achieved on time
Ensure that calculations are prepared / reviewed by appropriately qualified staff
To develop best value, robust design solutions which can withstand external challenge
To understand the design risk and assumptions associated with the project and manage this risk.
To record the risks and assumptions as the project progresses
Prepare design and engineering EPC proposals
To lead the design staff working on the project (including process, mechanical, electrical and BIM)
Assignment of work to subordinates and provide instructions and training to team members
To support and maintain good communications with all members of the design and project team
To ensure the design team are working to the company procedures
To work to continuously improve standards of performance and improve efficiency
To promote good H & S practice and minimize risk to operators / maintainers (e.g. designing out confined spaces and working from heights)
To understand the environment issues associated with the design and to manage them through the design process
Identify, propose and test innovative ideas
To undertake post project reviews to identify and communicate lessons learnt and best practice
To support the UK Head of Engineering-on-engineering initiatives
To review of scope and costs for appointment of BIM Companies and Design Companies
To support tender reviews including:
* Application of lessons learned and compiling of same
* Coordination and buildability reviews, to be presented in A3 report format
* Completion of Fire strategy overlays onto Ventilation drawings to communicate missing dampers
* Completion of void depth mark-ups
* Initial module maps and prefabrication schedules
Organisation of peer reviews and benchmarking of costs on same
Development of detailed interface schedules
Performance tracking of BIM and Design companies
Planning / Reporting on his project:
* Inputting with project planner to the TIDP for the project
* Tracking of deliverables and lookahead as outlined in TIDP
* Producing weekly progress reports on development and look ahead
* Managing % complete register for BIM works completed internally
* Ensuring Coordinators weekly “time trackers” are populated, particular care to ensure time spent on instructed works is recorded
Ownership of Builders work process to include:
* Liaising with the Design / client teams to agree on project specific criteria
* Ensuring information is clearly documented and shared among internal team and supply chain
* Monitoring supply chain compliance with the above details
* Tracking any deviations / new requirements released which have an impact on works complete
* Compiling reports to demonstrate impact to support commercial team
Representing Dornan in client coordination workshops / progress meetings:
* Compiling detailed and accurate minutes
* Delegating actions arising to team
* Inputting into project risk register
Leading development of initial Prefabrication strategy / Module mapping. ensuring input from key team members including commercial team
Tracking change including collating sufficient supporting evidence to support commercial team in recovery
Track and report on the compilation of O & M documentation, including redline drawings through construction
Regular input into project lessons learned register and production of “Bulletins” for key items that should be highlighted across projects – leading the post project design lessons learned element
Contribute to the development / update of Dornan Standards, Methods, and procedure documents
All other reasonable tasks assigned to you from time to time from your manager / Project Manager
